How to Make Oat Milk like Oatly in 5 minutes
Have you ever wondered how to make oat milk like Oatly?
Oat milk is a healthy milk substitute for your dairy free babies. Our baby has been drinking oat milk since he was 15 months old. We used to give him Similac Alimentum because he is allergic to dairy.
This week, I finally had the courage to make our own oat milk for our toddler. I’ve read a diy oat milk blog post before and it sounded so tedious so I thought of a way to make it quick and easy for me.
Our boy drinks a cartoon of Oatly or Oat Yeah for a day or 1 1/2 day and that means we spend around $15 per week just for his milk. It’s expensive plus I didn’t like the additional ingredients and preservatives in those milk boxes. I had to put my thinking cap on and after 2 failed attempts, I can finally share with you this quick and easy way to make an oat milk.
The most important gadget you need to make a good delicious oat milk is a powerful blender. My husband bought the Vitamix Explorian Blender, Professional-Grade, and it was perfect. The reason why you need it is because you want to blend it well and really fast. If you blend the oats for too long it will become slimy and thick. If you can’t make an oat milk using Vitamix, a strong blender like a Ninja blender will do but i don’t think you can make an oat milk without a blender.
The second useful tool that you will need to get is a nut milk bag. However, I really didn’t want to use my hands to squeeze the oats so I tried this all purpose food strainer. It’s amazing! It works perfectly for this project and also it is easy to clean. It only costs $15.95 on Amazon so it is really cheap compared to getting a milk bag that you have to squeeze. I feel like that is so unsanitary. I like to use a nut milk food strainer so I don’t have to use my hands. Homemade Oat Milk
Oat Milk Ingredients:
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Choice of Oats (I used the Quaker Oats Quick 1-Minute Oatmeal and I also tried making it with steel cut oats using Nature’s Path Gluten Free Steel Cut Oatmeal)
- Date Sugar (Anthony’s Date Sugar, Granulated)
- Water
Mix 1 cup of Oats, 2 tbsp of Date Sugar and 4 cups of water in a 10 Vitamix blender setting for 15 seconds.
Strain the mixture. Stir if you are impatient.
Transfer to a glass bottle. (I bought the Vremi 6 Pack Glass Water Bottle – 18 oz Drinking Bottles with Stainless Steel Lids)
That’s it! That’s how simple, quick and easy it is to make an Oat Milk!
For the second batch of milk that I made, I added 2 tbsps of Flaxseed and 1 cup of water and baby boy still likes it. Spectrum Essentials Organic Ground Flaxseed.
For the 3rd batch of oat milk, I added a pinch of salt, 1 tablespoon of Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil to the Oatmeal, Date Sugar, Flaxseed and Water. I am very happy that I can finally make our own milk without the preservatives.

Oat milk is one of my favourites for breakfast and your recipe looks quite interesting! Haven’t tried using dates with an oat milk blend before – will try that one out!
